AISC Releases Design Guide for Assessment and Repair of Structural Steel in Existing Buildings
by .
CHICAGO – There can be plenty of surprises when renovating an existing building.
The American Institute of Steel Construction is making life easier with a brand-new one-shop stop for anyone working on a steel building: Design Guide 16, Assessment and Repair of Structural Steel in Existing Buildings.
It’s where experts have gathered insights on common considerations for initial assessments as well as methods for detailed inspection, evaluation, and nondestructive examination.
The design guide also explores several types of damage or deterioration commonly found in existing steel buildings and approaches for evaluating their structural effects.
And, of course, the guide offers practical advice for planning and executing repairs.
Like all AISC design guides, Design Guide 16 is now available as a free download for members at aisc.org/dg. Print editions are also available for purchase.
Learn More in a Live Webinar Series
AISC has one more resource that covers what’s new with old buildings: a two-part webinar series. Design Guide 16 author Chris Hewitt and Alan Humphreys, both of Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc., will review best practices and run through an overview of the design guide starting February 27. Participants could earn up to 3.0 PDHs. Learn more at aisc.org/dg16-webinar.
