Tampa, FL: AtkinsRéalis, a world-class engineering services and nuclear company with offices around the world, announces today that it has been awarded a Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) services contract to serve as the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) oversight manager for an Interstate 275 (I-275) construction project near Tampa, Florida. The project adds capacity along a major emergency evacuation route, will reduce travel delays by up to 85 percent and supports $1.42 billion in regional economic impacts[i].
“We have a reputation for delivering safe, efficient and transformative infrastructure projects on behalf of FDOT,” said Steve Morriss, President, U.S., Latin America and Minerals & Metals, AtkinsRéalis. “Our work is about having an impact on communities and the Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative[ii] ensures resiliency of the state’s transportation network and bolsters its supply chain and economic growth.”
The project adds tolled express lanes, widens seven bridges, constructs one new bridge and constructs new and rehabilitates existing concrete pavement travel lanes along a seven mile stretch of I-275 between 38th Avenue North and 4th Street North. AtkinsRéalis’ expertise in bridge construction, roadway, lighting, signalization, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and tolling systems will be leveraged within the CEI contract, while overseeing upgrades to the local infrastructure.
“This project highlights many of the technical, innovative and value-added solutions we are known for,” said Brad Dennard, Senior Vice President, DOT Business Unit Director U.S., Roads Global Market Lead, AtkinsRéalis. “Our extensive history of working hand in hand with the Department has prepared our team for virtually anything that may be encountered on this project.”
AtkinsRéalis U.S. headquarters is in Tampa, Florida, which has been home to its U.S. business since 1960. The Company has been providing CEI services to FDOT’s District 7 for 22 years, delivering some of the largest award-winning projects in the area including the I-275/I-4 Downtown Tampa interchange and the soon to be completed I-275 Howard Frankland Bridge replacement project.
The Company maintains 13 hub offices employing more than 1000 professionals in the Sunshine State, accounting for nearly a quarter of AtkinsRéalis’ nationwide staff. Fully invested in Florida’s long-term success, AtkinsRéalis supports FDOT through several initiatives including developing the next generation of construction workforce. The Company helped the Department establish and maintain OnBoard Tampa Bay[iii], a workforce development program aimed at creating a sustainable pipeline of local resources for upcoming roadway and bridge projects, enhancing economic opportunities in the region.
