LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 16, 2025) – Arkansas-based Lexicon, Inc. and its divisions have earned five safety awards from the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) for outstanding safety performance in 2024, including two Awards of Honor, AISC’s top safety recognition.
The Lexicon divisions listed below earned AISC safety awards in steel fabrication and erection for having minimal Days Away, Restricted or Transfer (DART) injuries in 2024, as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Safety Award of Honor
- Custom Metals – Little Rock, Ark. (DART rate of 0.0)
- Prospect Steel – Armorel, Ark. (DART rate of 0.0)
Safety Award of Merit
- Lexicon Industrial Constructors – Little Rock, Ark. (DART rate of 0.31)
- Steel Fabricators of Monroe – Monroe, La. (DART rate of 0.47)
Safety Commendation
- Prospect Steel – Little Rock, Ark. (DART rate of 1.24)
In addition to bringing home two of AISC’s top honors, Lexicon’s Industrial Constructors division was one of only seven AISC member companies across the nation to earn an Award of Merit in the Erector category, and Steel Fabricators of Monroe was one of only 12 to earn an Award of Merit in the Fabricator category.
“People, quality, safety and innovation remain the driving force behind everything we do at Lexicon,” said CEO Patrick Schueck. “We’re proud to once again be recognized for prioritizing the well-being of our employees, partners and customers. These honors affirm our ongoing commitment to building America the right way – safely, responsibly and with excellence at every level.”
Award recipients were recognized at the 2025 Steel Conference and SafetyCon, which took place in Louisville, Ky. earlier this month. Additionally, a list of all honorees has been published in Modern Steel Construction magazine and on its website.
“Structural steel fabrication shops and construction sites are busy places with many activities occurring simultaneously,” said AISC Senior Director of Engineering Tom Schlafly. “Skill, experience and planning are required to accomplish those activities safely. Avoiding accidents is not an accident. AISC is proud of those companies whose employees worked through 2024 with few or no Days Away, Restricted or Transfer (DART) injuries.”
The safety awards program is open to all AISC member fabricators and erectors, and applications for the program are solicited annually. Safety award recipients are scored and selected based on DART rates that companies report to OSHA. The DART rate measures the number of recordable lost work cases per 200,000 hours worked. AISC bases the awards on cases, not days, as reported to OSHA on the 300A form, along with hours worked in the year. Additional details are available at aisc.org/safety.
